FEARM for WOAS - load or take samples.
Beat engine number four for the drum machine!
Whilst WOAS remains primarily a drum synthesiser, many people have asked about loading samples into each voice - I’m happy to see the machine evolve and adapt to people’s needs.
Here are 50 free kits you can load onto a WOAS with FEARM installed.
Here are 10 more created by Andrew Pigue/Redline.

## Loading Your Own Samples
1. Connect your WOAS to a computer via USB.
2. A drive called SAMPLES should appear.
- If the WOAS is currently in use (e.g. connected via MIDI), the drive will not appear.
3. Inside the drive you’ll find four `.wav` files.
4. To load your own sounds, replace them with new files named exactly:
- `1.wav`, `2.wav`, `3.wav`, `4.wav`
- Format: 44.1kHz / 16-bit WAV
- Each number corresponds to the voices on the WOAS, from left to right.
5. Drag and drop your new samples to replace the existing ones.
6. Safely unmount the SAMPLES drive and unplug your WOAS.
7. When you power the WOAS back on, it will load your new samples automatically.

## Auditioning Sounds with Pure Data
The KITS folder linked to above also includes `testpatch.pd`.
- If you have Pure Data (Pd) installed, you can drag this patch into any folder.
- Open it and click the red square to audition your samples together.

## Sampling Directly Into the WOAS
You can also record your own sounds directly:
1. Plug in a microphone or external device using a 6.35mm (1/4") TRS or TS jack cable (stereo or mono).
- All recordings are mono (stereo sources are summed internally).
2. Set the START switch to the down position.
3. Choose the voice you want to record into:
- Press and hold its INPUT switch.
4. While still holding INPUT, tap WAVESNAP.
- The voice is now armed for sampling.
5. The WOAS will automatically record a 1-second sample the next time it detects a sound at the input that transitions from silence.
- What you record in that second is up to you.
6. Once recorded, you can control dynamics, triggers, and shaping as usual using the WOAS synthesis controls.

You can buy a preloaded microSD card or download the disk image and make your own using Balena Etcher. You will need a 4GB or larger card.
Replacing your WOAS beat engine:
- Disconnect all cables from your WOAS.
- Turn over the device, unscrew and remove the 8 screws on the back panel.
- Remove the back panel.
- Locate the SD card holder at the bottom of the circuit board.
- Press the SD card lightly to release it, trying not to touch the circuit board.
- Remove the SD card.
- Slot in the new SD card and push lightly to latch it in place.
- Replace the back panel and screws.
- Your WOAS is ready to use!
